Days 1-3: Self-Assessment and Identifying Strengths

  • May 1: Introduction to self-assessment tools and exercises.
  • May 2: Summarize personal strengths, interests, skills, and competencies. Self-assessment survey activity and/or skills inventory activity.
  • May 3: Explore transferable skills valued by employers.

Week 2: Self-Knowledge and Goal Setting Cont’d

Days 4-6: Goal Setting and Career Exploration

  • May 6: Introduction to goal-setting techniques. STAR method.
  • May 7: Identify career goals aligning with personal interests and skills.
  • May 8: Research occupations and identify areas of growth needed to achieve goals.

Day 7-8: Portfolio Development

  • May 9: Understanding the purpose and benefits of portfolio development.
  • Individual portfolio creation assignment
  • May 10: Present and reflect on and explain choices of portfolio items.

Week 3: Personal Management Skills and Decision Making

Days 9-10: Understanding Personal Management Skills

  • May 13: Identify and describe personal-management skills contributing to success.
  • Explore the importance of organizational skills, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • May 14: Discuss internal and external influences on decision making.
  • Discussion board post on influences on their decision making processes.

Days 11-12: Time Management and Healthy Lifestyle

  • May 15: Demonstrate time and priority-management strategies.
  • Identify effective risk and stress-management strategies.
  • May 16: Discuss strategies for achieving a healthy lifestyle balance.

Day 13: Review and Assessment

  • May 17: Review personal management skills covered during the week.
  • Assess understanding through reflection or quiz.

Week 4: Interpersonal Relations and Communication

Day 14: Interpersonal Skills and Teamwork

  • May 21: Identify and describe interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrate effective use of interpersonal skills in experiential learning activities.
  • Discuss appropriate communication in various situations.

Days 15-16: Group Dynamics and Conflict Resolution

  • Explore how diversity influences group dynamics.

Week 5: Preparation for Transitions and Change

  • May 28: Discuss challenges and stages of transitioning to new roles and environments.
  • Identify strategies for adapting to change.

Days 19-20: Work Search Strategies

  • May 29: Locate and select appropriate work opportunities.
  • Expand networks to access the hidden job market.
  • May 30: Prepare effective resumes, cover letters, and job applications.
  • Resume critique assignment.

Day 21: Evaluation

  • Unit test or culminating activity to evaluate learning and satisfy assessment OF learning.
