YouTube Assignment: Part A
EDUC-5499
The YouTube video that I chose for this assignment had to do with the web design, and more specifically, the professional web design process. I chose this video because, first and foremost, I have an interest in web design and how to create beautiful websites, and two, I have never really looked at how the web design process changes when you are talking about professional websites and those for businesses.
The video is a short video, only five minutes or so long, which is great because it is a quick little chunk of information that is not too overwhelming, and because it is a shorter video, it also has to be explained in a fairly simple manner as to not overwhelm the viewers of the video. The video format is a timeline that starts with the beginning of the professional web design process, which is gathering information from the clients as to what they are looking for, what type of website they want, any ideas they already have, and more. It then moves onto the concept phase, where he describes how he creates what is called a “wireframe” which is basically like a sketch of the website with no content, colours, pictures, or any other set information, it is purely to see the layout of the website. Next it moves onto presenting it to the client to see what their thoughts of it are. It then moves onto the big part of the process which is actually creating the full website. That means adding the colours, photos, text, and any other content. It also means adding the features and links of the site that make it special, if that is what the clients are looking for, of course. It then finally talks about the last part, which is presenting the final product to the client and making any changes that they would like to make. Once all that is done, the process is finally complete.
The reason that this video is relevant and why I chose to watch it is because as a part of the communications technology courses that I plan to teach when I become a teacher will involve web design and creating a website from scratch. Now this does not mean that I am expecting my students to create a professional website and go through the process from start to finish, but it does give me the knowledge of understanding what the process looks like, that way I can convey this knowledge to my students. By sharing this knowledge to them, it will allow them to understand what goes into a professional website, and will also give them the knowledge of how to start from scratch if they so choose to create a professional website. And who knows, maybe one day a lesson like this will create a spark in a students mind to go into web design or start their own company, and will already have some prior knowledge which they can use to their advantage.
Overall, I believe that this video was beneficial to me in various ways. It has given me personal knowledge to use for my web designing hobbies. It has allowed me to learn more about the web design process so that I can convey the information to my students in relevant courses such as communications technology. But it has also opened my eyes to the amount of work that goes into the websites that we use and take for granted every single day.
